Biography

Billie Holiday (April 7, 1915 - July 17, 1959; born Eleanora Fagan Gough in Baltimore, Maryland, USA), also known as Lady Day, was an American singer widely considered to be one of the greatest, and most influential jazz voices of all time. In the 1930's, she was sought out and signed to sing with jazz greats like Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Artie Shaw - but it was her, behind and ahead of-the-beat phrasing, plus heart-breakingly poignant voice that was said to dominate the vocals of most others.
